Camp Sgt Quintin M Merecido, Davao City- A former member of PBC 1 (Pulang Bagani Command) of the New People’s Army and Tugbok Police Station’s No. 1 Most Wanted Person died after engaging in a firefight with the police operatives during the service of warrant of arrest yesterday.

Initial investigation revealed that on August 18, 2019, at about 10:25 AM, personnel of Tugbok Police Station (PS9), Davao CPO together with Presidential Anti-Organize Crime Commission (PAOCC) jointly conducted Manhunt Charlie operation at Block 35, Lot 17, Rosalina 3, Brgy. Baliok, Talomo District, Davao City against Benjie Martos Clarion, a.k.a “Long-Long”, about 25-30 years old, male, single, and a native of Sitio Battalion, Brgy. New Carmen, Tugbok District, Davao City.

He was supposed to be arrested by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest issued by Honorable Judge Evalyn M Arellano-Morales of RTC, Branch 17, 11th Judicial Region, Ecoland, Davao City with Criminal Case Number R-DVO-18-02229-CR for Murder, However, the said operation resulted into an armed confrontation and later neutralization of the suspect.

Personnel of SOCO 11 conducted parallel investigation on the crime scene and were able to recover the following:

a. One caliber .38 revolver with three cartridge cases and one fired cartridge case;

b. One fired cartridge case believed to be from caliber 9mm pistol;

c. One improvised caliber 9mm pistol with two steel magazines and 15 cartridge cases; and

d. Six elongated plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.

Also recovered from the crime scene was one (1) MK2 fragmentation hand grenade which is now in the custody of EOD, DCPO and one pack bag containing clothes, personal belongings of the suspect such as ID card and Php670.00 cash in different denominations.

According to PBGen Marcelo C Morales, Regional Director, the suspect was the one who shoot and killed PO3 Wilfredo Garol on November 2017 in Barangay New Valencia, Tugbok, Davao City. The former intelligence officer sustained eight (8) gun shot wounds in the different parts of his body.

“I’m quite relieved all our efforts to bring the culprits to the bar of the law was gaining headway. Justice will now be served to the bereaved family,” he said.

He further added, ” On NPA killing police officers who were not engaged in an armed conflict only proves that they are terrorist and that their intent is to create panic and terrorize the public. Ang ginawa nila sa aming kasama ay isang paglabag sa International Humanitarian Law dahil ang biktima nung sya ay harangin ng mga halang ang kaluluwa ay galing lang sa skwelahan kung saan hinatid nya ang kanyang asawa na isang guro.”

Cadaver of the suspect now lies at Angel Funeral Homes, Toril, Davao City.
