Camp Sgt. Quintin M Merecido, Buhangin, Davao City- Police Regional Office 11 continues to accumulate loose firearms and apprehend persons violating law on RA 10591 through the conduct of OPLAN BAKAL SITA regionwide.

At about 10:00 PM of August 11, 2019, Personnel from Mobile Patrol-3 of 1st Company DNPMFC and Tagum CPS PNP Personnel of Mobile Parol-4 conducted Oplan Bakal Sita at Wild Flower videoke house located at Ferrido Street, Brgy. Mankilam, Tagum City which resulted to the arrest of ELMER VARGAS SARONA, male, 39-years old, married and a resident of Purok Pag-asa, Brgy. Cabay-angan, Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte.

Oplan Bakal is basically a police operation in an establishment, normally a bar or nightclub, where policemen enter the place unannounced and conduct a search for firearms that may be in the possession of customers or guests. It is a surprise search so that gun-wielding guests or customers can be caught red-handed.

“The police can only request – and not force – anyone/guests to open their bags para makita ng mga pulis kung may dalang armas or deadly weapon ang isang tao. Again, the customer is not forced to do anything. However, anyone who hesitates to heed the request can give the impression that contraband is being concealed,” Regional Director, PBGen. Marcelo Morales emphasized.

Confiscated from the possession of the suspect were; one unit .38 caliber revolver without serial number loaded with four (4) live ammunitions. However, when asked with pertinent documents, the suspect could not present any document legalizing him to own and possess the said firearm.

Apprehended person and pieces of evidence are now in the custody of Tagum CPS for proper disposition. More so, he will be facing charges for violating RA 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

According to RD Morales, Police Regional Office 11 will continue to run after those illegal owners/holders of unlicensed firearms to intensify our campaign in curbing gun-related crimes and establishing effective firearms control.

“We will be more vigilant and more steadfast in our law enforcement operations to prevent the lawless elements from disrupting the peace and order situation in our region,” he ended.
