City- Police Regional Office 11 implements crackdown on illegal gambling that resulted to the arrest of Celso Marequit Quimay, alias Cel, 29 years old, married, tricycle driver and a resident of Prk Pag-asa, Brgy. Tres de Mayo, Digos City after being caught in the act engaging in an illegal gambling activity called ‘cara y cruz’.

PBGen Marcelo C Morales, Regional Director, said that at about 5:15 pm of August 9,2019, a concerned citizen reported to Digos CPS that an illegal gambling activity (cara y cruz) was happening at Sitio Power, Tres de Mayo, Digos City. Immediately, intelligence personnel of Digos City Police Station proceeded and conducted anti-illegal gambling operation which resulted to the arrest of the Quimay while other persons involved, managed to escape.

Confiscated and recovered from the possession and control of the arrested person were the following: P682.00 bet money, One (1) improvised block cement and coins used as toss coin.

The inventory of the seized pieces of evidence recovered from the operations were done in an orderly manner in the presence of the suspect and the witnessess.

The suspect was now temporarily detained at the custody of the operating unit for filing of case for violation of PD 1602.

Further, PBGen Morales asked the public’s cooperation to combat this long time problems on gambling.

“I appeal to the public na pagtulungan natin na sugpuin itong illegal gambling. Maraming pamilya at kabuhayan ang nasisira nito. If we really want success, importante dito participation ng community, dapat tumigil din ang mga nai-involved na identified personalities sa ganitong gawain or else makukulong kayo pag kayo ay nahuli.” he stated.

The crackdown on illegal gambling is anchored on Presidential Decree 1602 directing government agencies to “intensify the fight” against illegal gambling.
